PLAN AHEAD BY ENROLLING IN GRADUATE COURSES!
WHAT IS THE 4+1 BA/MA?
Anthropology's 4+1 BA/MA program is designed for UVA undergraduates who wish to pursue a master's degree in anthropology to deepen their understanding of the many possible ways to live in the world. Students accepted into the program continue at UVA as MA students.
WHAT ARE SOME ADVANTAGES OF THE 4+1 PATH TO AN MA?
- No application fee
- No GRE test requirement
- Tuition savings
When can I apply?
Applications open in the spring of 2018. 3rd-Year and 4th-Year students will be eligible.
What do I need to do now to be ready to apply?
Enroll in graduate-level anthropology courses before you graduate, over and above whatever credits you need for the BA. Students accepted into the 4+1 program may count up to 6 credits of graduate-level anthropology courses taken as an undergraduate toward the MA. These 6 credits must be in addition to the 120 credits required for the BA degree. By taking graduate courses in advance (typically during your 4th year), you can complete the 30-credit MA program in as little as one academic year, depending on the number of credits taken each semester.
