IN-APPROPRIATE: Native American Stereotypes in Popular Culture
Where does “cool” cross the line and become offensive? When celebrities Gwen Stefani, Snoop Dogg and the Victoria’s Secret models donned Indian war bonnets and headdresses, they did more than ruffle a few feathers. Artist Frank Buffalo Hyde (Onondaga/Nez Perce) will share his work and lead a discussion on the use of Native American imagery to reinforce stereotypes and why it can do real damage.
